Nowadays, with many platforms that provide designers with technological opportunities, there are still many challenges while combining technology and media with the design for educators and professionals.
Technology Platforms could facilitate the methods, but the question is that to what extend designers like architects, and urban designers should know about these technologies.
The first part of this talk is about the “media architecture,” which explains the relationship between design, media, and architecture. In the second part, Mark Shepard talks about understanding ” coding,” which is the language of our time for designers, and he elaborates on its ambiguity.
In the last part, they discuss the term ” urban data,” its concerns, and opportunities. They furthermore address some questions on how urban designers can access to urban data and utilize it for their professional practice and research projects.
Finally, they talk over “Artificial Intelligence technology” (Ai) and how it works as a tool for designers and how designers can position themselves in the age of AI.

For Future City’s first birthday, we held a series of Instagram Live discussions in 7 days with 7 hosts from the Future City network and their guests. The hosts invited their guests based on their area of expertise. Every night, a host and a guest joined in a live discussion from different parts of the world, talking about various topics, from urban innovation, sustainability, and intellectual property to emerging technology and futures. This video is a recording of the conversation of the third night hosted by Paria Kia who invited Nazvand Bahari, Attorney at law. This Live session was concerned with intellectual property in the context of Iranian law, specifically from the perspective of design and architecture.
In this video, they talk about different design disciplines through the distinguish of the terms “the future” and “futures”. They have particular regard at the COVID-19 pandemic that has been spreading all over the world and how innovative designs like the speculative design could work in these situations.

The speakers also explain the vitality of being creative and using problems as an opportunity to rethink and reimagine the future and use design through the strategy for having a real impact on people’s lives.
This conversation also consists of useful advice for futuristics about being a good designer and having a better relationship with the clients.
